CPCCDE3014 – Remove non-friable asbestos

Our Asbestos Worker Program is suited to anyone working in the building and construction sector that requires the training to legally remove non-friable asbestos. This course is only available in select regional areas.

 

About the course

 

This non-accredited short course is designed to:

• equip all workers with knowledge to recognise different types of asbestos

• demonstrate how to safely undertake unlicensed asbestos removal operations according to the legislated allowable amounts

• demonstrate how to safely take a suspect asbestos samples for analysis

• demonstrate how to safely work on non-friable asbestos containing material (e.g. drilling).

Who should study this course?

 

For workers involved in the removal of limited quantities of non-friable asbestos containing material permitted to be conducted without a licence and for workers who work on non-friable asbestos containing material , for example, when cutting, drilling or painting.

 

Master Builders entry requirements

 

Learners enrolling for the Non-Friable Asbestos Awareness Course must have:

• CPCCOHS1001A Work safely in construction industry or;

• CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry prior to course commencement. Master Builders encourages all individuals regardless of their disabilities and social, racial, cultural or educational background to apply for training courses in accordance with the requirements of the Equal Opportunity Act (Vic) 2010 and related legislation.

 

Learning outcomes

 

Students will have gained the skills and knowledge to:

• review the characteristics and identify the uses of asbestos containing material

• demonstrate an understanding of the nature of asbestos containing materials (ACM)

• demonstrate knowledge of the different types of health hazards associated with asbestos

• plan and prepare for the safe removal of asbestos up to the amount allowable by legislation without a licence

• follow the OHS Act, asbestos regulations, national codes of practice and relevant industry standards for safe work on asbestos containing materials (e.g. drilling, cutting, painting) and for the safe removal of asbestos permitted without a licence

• show compliance with organisational policy, quality procedures and processes for safe removal of non- friable asbestos

• select and use relevant plant and personal protective equipment (PPE)

• decontaminate work areas and dispose of asbestos materials as required by WorkSafe.

 

Learning support

 

• Master Builders provides additional support to students who require assistance in completing their course assessments and requirements.

• A range of support services are available to students who experience literacy, digital literacy and numeracy difficulties.

 

Course structure and duration

 

• The course is delivered in face-to-face learning equivalent to 8 hours in class.

• Upon successful completion of this course, student will receive a Statement of Attendance from Master Builders Association of Victoria (RTO no 3935).

 

Assessment

 

• A combination of formative and summative assessment techniques are employed.

• The following assessment methodologies are used singularly or in combination for the assessment of learners’ competence.

• Simulation of non-friable asbestos removal

• Written questions – multiple choice and short answer responses

• Practical exercises and tasks, problem solving and reporting activities. The learner will need to demonstrate the following key competencies in the assessment activities set out above:

• Describe orally and in writing the physical forms in which ACM may commonly be found in the industry and their associated health hazards.

• Describe and monitor compliant practices orally and in writing, with reference to the Victorian OHS Act 2004, Asbestos regulations and relevant industry standards.

• Plan, prepare and safely undertake removal of limited permitted quantities of asbestos and work involving the disturbance of asbestos containing material.

• Inspect, select and use relevant plant and personal protective equipment (PPE) for working safely with asbestos.

• Decontaminate work areas and dispose of asbestos materials as required by WorkSafe.
