Be brave, embrace the cold and get yourself to the Grampians for an amazing family winter getaway!

Where is the Grampians National Park?

The Grampians is a National Park in Victoria about a 3 hour drive West of Melbourne. There are highways connecting, whether you are coming from Melbourne or Geelong.

The Grampians is a popular regional Victoria holiday destination and makes a great weekend getaway for families because of its location and the variety of activities available for all ages.

Where is Halls Gap?

Halls Gap is a small Victorian town located close to the Grampians National Park. The town is set in the Fyans Valley not far from Lake Fyans and makes the perfect base to explore. It is also one of the best places to see kangaroos, koalas, kookaburras and other wildlife. With so many things to do in Hall’s Gap itself, it is one of the most popular towns to stay in the Grampians, especially for families.

The Grampians region is the prime wintertime retreat to explore both its outdoor and indoor delights this season. With cascading waterfalls, award-winning produce, cosy dining, and abundant wildlife it is the perfect location to wind down in nature and be inspired by its natural beauty and talented community.

Explore:

Get out in nature and discover the fast-flowing waterfalls during the winter months. Many form part of a scenic hike that allows visitors to the region to take in the beauty of landscape and wildlife along the way. The most iconic waterfall in the Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park, Mackenzie Falls is a must-see being the largest of the falls and its currents are often strongest in winter with beautiful sprays of rainbow mist. Alternatively, enjoy the scenic rocky terrain and tranquility of Venus Baths on the short walk up to Splitters Falls. Other waterfalls not to be missed are Beehive Falls, Wannon Falls and Nigretta Falls, all three renowned for their beauty.

Eat:

For a mouth-watering treat the Grampians is the place to go with some of the best locally produced food. Family-run across three generations, Flame Brothers in the heart of Halls Gap has its ovens fired with delicious hearty winter fare of smoked meats, wood fired pizzas and burgers. Also in Halls Gap, the Spirit of Punjab will fulfil cravings for authentic Indian cuisine enjoyed alongside stunning views of the Grampians. Alongside great dining options are local provedoors selling locally made delights including Five Ducks Farm, where visitors can taste test delicious hand-made jams, jellies, chutneys and relishes all made with locally sourced ingredients. Whilst in the region a trip to Grampians Olive co. is also a must, one of Australia’s oldest olive groves. The 100% family owned and operated farm cold presses olives within hours of harvest and hand bottles in small batches to guarantee freshness.

Drink:

Although the Grampians is synonymous with great wines, the microbreweries are worth a visit for a great drop. Head to Paper Scissors Rock Brew Co in Halls Gap for an exceptional showcase of 8 taps of seasonal craft beer made in the brewery onsite which can be paired with great food enjoyed whilst listening to one of the live music events that take place regularly. For something a bit different, Pomonal Estate is a winery, microbrewery and cider house set against the backdrop of the picturesque town of Pomonal. Brewed on site is a selection of pilsners, pale ales, IPA and chocolate milk stout with names such as Aussie Smash and Pobblebonk pale ale. All can be enjoyed alongside tasting plates of locally sourced produce.
