Golden Potato Bake
Indulge in the comforting embrace of this timeless classic that elevates any meal! Whether paired with a juicy roast or as the star of a cosy family dinner, its irresistible blend of tender potatoes and creamy flavours will leave you craving more!
• 5-6 large potatoes (Desiree or Sebago), sliced 3mm thick
• ¼ cup butter
• 2 cloves garlic minced
• 1 large onion diced
• ¼ cup flour
• 2 cups milk
• 1 cup chicken broth
• ½ teaspoon salt
• ¼ teaspoon pepper
Method
1. Preheat oven to 180°C.
2. Melt butter in a pan over medium-low heat, add garlic and onion and cook until softened (about 3 mins). Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 mins.
3. Reduce heat to low, then gradually whisk in milk and broth until thick and smooth. Bring to a boil, add salt and pepper and let boil for 1 minute.
4. Grease a 9″x13″ baking dish. Layer ? of the potatoes, season with salt and pepper, and pour ? of the sauce on top. Repeat layers, finishing with sauce.
5. Cover and bake for 45 mins.
6. Uncover and bake another 35-45 mins until golden and tender.
7. Increase oven to 220°C and bake for 3-5 mins more for the perfect golden top!
